Helping with Homeruns!

We are humbled to help spread the word of this opportunity to support a GCPS family currently facing some personal adversity. Community members have teamed up with with All American Softball and is hosting the “1st Annual Homerun Derby” to benefit this family.

The GYAA player is a student in our middle school and has demonstrated tremendous success both on and off the field.

Please see these remarks from a member of the organizing community group:

This past Spring the student’s father was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer at the young age of 41. As you can imagine, this was such heartbreaking news for our “softball family” and lies heavily on each one of us. He went through his 1st round of chemo during All Stars this past Summer but still managed to to never skip a beat to help with whatever was needed let alone to miss one of the tournament games. Shortly after the State Tournament, he went in for his 1st scan after he had received his 1st round of chemo only to learn this nasty disease had progressed. Michael is currently receiving a 2nd, stronger round of chemo that seems to be taking a toll on him this go around. But again, doesn’t skip a beat when it comes to watching his “Lady Bug” in one of her travel tournaments this Fall. Goochland is very excited to be teaming up with Kerri Cobb with All American Softball, to be hosting their “1st Annual Homerun Derby” to benefit the Sims family! Thank you for your participation!

Fundraiser this Weekend

We have been presented with a wonderful fundraising opportunity for our GMS Athletics Program. The Lincoln Division of Richmond Ford has a program called “Driven to Give” where they will donate to our Athletics Program. The program is pretty simple, they will bring Lincoln vehicles to our parking lot for members of our community to test drive. It involves filling out a questionnaire form and then test driving a vehicle. Lincoln will donate $20 per valid test drive. The stipulations for a valid test drive are pretty simple: 1) Drivers must be at least 18 years old, 2) Only one driver per household (this means for each address, if you can get mail at another house then you can put that address down; i.e. parent’s house, etc.).

If we work together we can accomplish this and make it a great fundraiser for our Athletics Program. All we need to do is get 300 test drives to earn up to $6000! So, contact anyone and everyone that you can and get them to come out to support GMS Athletics.

We chose the date of October 19th for a very simple reason, GYAA will be having their homecoming on that day and they will be using the High School Field for their games. We will use a small portion of the parking lot to put this event on. This is a wonderful way for our community to share in the success of our student/athletes and to give a little bit of their time to help fund our Athletic Programs. We have 12 Athletic Programs at the Middle School that can serve over 250 of our students.
